The Berri vineyard is the most westerly cru in Barolo, on the far edge of La Morra. Nebbiolo has always been grown here, but this small commune lost much of its population after the Second World War, as people left for easier work in the cities. In 2007, Nicola Oberto and his father Federico, and family friend Vladimiro Rambaldi bought five hectares, drawn in by a site with real potential but little reputation to speak of. They set up Trediberri, the name meaning simply "three from Berri." Their first vintage was released in 2011. Now Trediberri is a rare treasure in a great wine region - a source of beautifully made Piedmontese wines at very fair prices.
Federico brought with him decades of experience at the highest level, having worked under the legendary Renato Ratti from 1970 until Ratti's retirement in 2005. His son Nicola heads up the winemaking, and is one of the region’s brightest talents. The estate now farms around 13 organic hectares of traditional Langhe varieties. Gentle winemaking with ageing in large casks, tank, and concrete is designed to retain the purity in every wine. It’s all driven by a single idea - in Nicola's own words: "the greatest recognition for us is a bottle that is quickly finished."
Trediberri is a young estate, but they make wines in the noblest traditions of Barolo, combining the best of artisanal and modern methods.
