Adrian Pike – co-founder of Moshi Moshi Records, which launched the careers of Bloc Party and Hot Chip – is among the latest wave of producers shunning the Champagne copycat approach and crafting a distinct identity for English wine. Taking over a modest, south-facing vineyard in Kent’s North Downs in 2016, Adrian produces traditional method sparklings, pet nats, and experimental skin-contact wines using a pragmatic-meets-organic approach learnt from his time at Davenport and Plumpton. Westwell’s Wicken Foy is delicate and pretty, showing some richer stone and orchard fruit notes alongside fresh lemon sherbet and nutty complexity.
