Domaine Ramonet sets the blistering standard in Chassagne-Montrachet, its roster of wines – from regional and village level to 1er and Grand Crus – each exhibiting that rare combination of dense fruit, satiny textures, and flawless precision.
Arriving in Burgundy in the 1920s, Pierre Ramonet began to earn his keep by buying and vinifying grapes, while gradually accumulating and clearing disused plots around Chassagne, beginning with 1er Cru ‘Les Ruchottes’. Over the next 60 or so vintages, Pierre enjoyed a reputation as one of Burgundy’s great, old-school winemakers and the domaine as the Côte de Beaune’s most celebrated address.
Domaine Ramonet is now in the hands of Pierre’s grandson Jean-Claude, who has upheld the family’s stellar reputation for Chardonnay, while also turning his sights on Aligoté in Bouzeron and elsewhere in Burgundy. From vines in Chassagne planted in 1956 and 1963, the 2013 Bourgogne Aligoté is a beautifully aged rendition, showing Ramonet’s signature herb freshness and stony appeal.
