Ever wondered how Noble Rot Restaurants served a top-drawer Grower Champagne as their house fizz at affordable prices? You need Michel Gonet in your life.
The Gonets have been producing wine in Champagne since 1802. Today they farm 40ha, mostly around Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, arguably the most important Grand Cru village of the Côte des Blancs. Here they produce two vintage Blanc des Blancs, one of which is the single-vineyard ‘Le Mesnil’ Grand Cru, a diamond-cut wine with pure citrus fruit and lengthy chalky minerality. It’s a Champagne that far exceeds its price point.
100% Chardonnay. A pitch-perfect combination of persistent fruit and a lacy autolytic character. Bone dry, racy, and very long. 5 years on lees. 0 g/l dosage. 18 points, Jancis Robinson.
