While Domaine Alain Burguet has forged a stellar reputation for ‘Mes Favorites’ – a cuvée that has featured on numerous three-star wine lists in France – their cuvée 'Symphonie' is always deserving of equal attention.
Since taking over their the family's Gevrey-Chambertin domaine in 2011, Jean-Luc and Eric – apprentices of Domaines Denis Bachelet and Henri Gouges, as well as Au Bon Climat's Jim Clendenden – have taken their father Alain's pioneering organic work up several notches.
By introducing biodynamic farming and later picking, as well as meticulously ‘triple sorting’ their grapes, the brothers are bringing out added layers of precision and purity in their wines, which still largely fly under the radar.
A blend of fruit from young vines across 23 lieu-dits around Gevrey, the Burguet's 2017 'Symphonie' combines the mid-weight style of the vintage with a heady floral character and luxurious texture that makes for impeccable drinking at 7 years old.
