A master winemaker at the top of his game, Frédéric (Freddy) Mugnier crafts some of Burgundy’s most silken, multidimensional, and transcendent Pinot Noirs in miniscule quantities.

The fifth-generation of the Mugnier family, Freddy took over the domaine in 1985. By reclaiming the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru ‘Clos de la Maréchale’ vineyard in 2004 (previously leased to Domaine Faiveley) he increased the family’s existing holdings to 14ha, including old vines in Chambolle-Musigny villages, 1er Crus ‘Les Fuées’ and ‘Les Amoureuses’, and Grands Crus ‘Bonnes-Mares’ and ‘Le Musigny’.

Guided by his pragmatic engineering background as well as a detailed, rigorous approach to farming, Freddy produces sublime and deeply complex wines in miniscule quantities.

Spectacularly low yields in 2012 resulted in exceptional fruit purity in this highly elegant rendition of 'Clos de la Maréchale'. Flint and smoke are layered between the sweet red and black cherry fruit and floral aromatics. Velvety and long.

92 Points, Jasper Morris
