Cutting his teeth alongside his friends Alessandro and Aldo Viola in the north-west of Sicily, Sergio Drago has fast become one of the island's rising stars of natural winemaking.
Now working 5ha of his own vines in Alcamo – a hot, dry region between Marsala and Palermo, largely known for producing salt and bulk wine – he works organically, with minimal intervention in the vineyards and the cellar. Production is naturally small and he likes to keep it that way.
Made from Cataratto – in his words, a variety that is "never predictable or banal" – and Nero d'Avola, Sergio’s wines are charming and delicate, and well worth seeking out.
Nero d'Avola and Syrah fermented and aged in stainless steel for 5 months. Ripe red fruits, earthy minerals, and sea salt spray. Super soulful.
