Henri Le Roy is the Jura winemaker on everyone’s lips crafting classy Burgundian-style whites and delicately perfumed reds from the same slopes as cult vigneron Kenjiro Kagamai of Domaine des Miroirs.
Growing up and working in Paris, Le Roy had always been drawn to the Jura from a young age and established his tiny 2.5ha Domaine de l’Aigle à Deux Têtes in the village of Vincelles in 2005. Sited on gently rolling slopes surrounded by forest, his old vineyards are a beacon of biodiversity and biodynamic farming.
Hand harvested and whole-bunch pressed, Le Roy’s wines are fermented with native yeasts before ageing in Burgundy barrels. Made in the ouillé (“topped-up”) style, his whites combine a spicy orchard fruit character with oily textures, while his reds are silky and elegant, and have a loyal following among top restaurants in Paris and Tokyo.
“These are high-minded wines from a high-minded man” (Wink Lorch). We’re thrilled to have received an allocation of a case of each.
From a slope just north of Rotalier shared with Kenjiro Kagami’s Domaine des Miroirs. Juicy and dense, with peach and toasted nuts. Beautiful!
