In Jerez, Sanlúcar de Barrameda’s chalky white albariza soils have drawn acclaimed Champagne grower David Léclapart – a master of chalk – to set up a fine-wine project in its backstreets with business partner (and former architect) Alejandro Muchada.

Becoming friends when Muchada worked a harvest in the Montagne de Reims, the pair bought 3ha of vineyards in the historic pago of Miraflores together in 2015, releasing Muchada-Léclapart’s debut vintage the following year.

We adore their non-fortified, terroir-specific Palominos, especially with a bit of bottle age. ‘Lumière’ – from 60-year-old vines in 'La Platera' and vinified in Bordeaux barrels – is layered and finessed with yellow orchard fruit, smoke, and herbs. Brilliant stuff.
