Dominio de Requena was founded by Ana Suria and Vicente García – “the Godfather of Valencian Cava” – in 1981, although it can trace its roots back to the early 19th century. Located in the Las Cabrillas mountains, approximately 60km inland, the estate’s south-facing vineyards are planted at high elevations (700m) around the bodega.
Among the first growers in the region to use organic methods to farm his land and an exemplar for sustainability and biodiversity, Vicente tends 12ha of Macabeo, Parellada, Xarel-lo, Bobal, Chardonnay, and Garnacha. Grapes are harvested by hand at night to preserve their freshness before being gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel.
A driving force for the region’s inclusion within the Cava DO, Vicente produces a range of excellent value, traditional method sparkling wines, as well as a small number of white and red cuvées made from local varieties.
Made from 75% Macabeo and 25% Parellada, Dominio de Requena’s Brut Nature Cava offers a delicate citrus and floral character layered with elegant toasty nuances – the result of spending 12 months on lees.
