Croix & Courbet

Croix & Courbet is one of Jura wine’s most exciting new collaborations. Treading a path laid down by pioneers like JF Ganevat (who first made non-oxidative wines here in 1998), David Croix and Damien Courbet are applying Burgundian artisan principles to top quality fruit from some of Jura’s most distinctive terroir.

The result is a must-try range for lovers of Jura and Burgundy alike.

That’s not surprising when you consider the duo’s backgrounds. David is a master of Beaune Pinot Noir. His roster of Premier Crus have become new-school benchmarks and made Domaine des Croix into one of the most talked-about names in Burgundy. Meanwhile, his old pal Damien Courbet honed his craft working with producers like Jim Clendenen, Nicolas Potel, Zind-Humbrecht and Olivier Merlin before returning to Jura where he makes great wines under his own label.

Besides being old friends, what unites these two is a love of the Savagnin grape and great terroir-specific wines. When the chance to buy grapes from top sites in Château-Chalon and Arbois came up, they couldn’t refuse.

While each wine they make has its own character, they all combine energy, weight and ripe fruit with a streak of salinity. All are topped up. Fans of David’s work in Burgundy will need no further recommendation, but anybody who wishes to taste some of the purest, most interesting and clearly defined interpretations of Jura vineyards should not miss these.
