Adrian Pike – co-founder of Moshi Moshi Records, which launched the careers of Bloc Party and Hot Chip – is among the latest wave of producers shunning the Champagne copycat approach and crafting a distinct identity for English wine. Taking over a modest, south-facing vineyard in Kent’s North Downs in 2016, Adrian produces traditional method sparklings, pet nats, and experimental skin-contact wines using a pragmatic-meets-organic approach learnt from his time at Davenport and Plumpton. The bright, elegant citrus fruit in Westwell’s 2013 Blanc de Blancs is streaked with saline minerality and a creamy autolytic influence. Just 1,250 bottles produced.
