Driving south through Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, the names of famous white wine villages flash by: Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet... Keep going and you come to the Mâconnais. It may not yet have the historic prestige of its northern neighbours, but it is just as dynamic, financially more accessible, and home to some of Burgundy’s brightest young stars.
Jessica Litaud began making her wines here in 2019, after training with Jura legend JF Ganevat. She has five hectares of old, biodynamically farmed vines in top vineyards, including some of the Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Crus. At her cellar in Vergisson, she uses gentle pressing and extended élevage in old barrels to craft exhilarating Chardonnays.
Litaud’s wines have that balance between generosity and restraint that’s the hallmark of only the best white Burgundy. Tiny quantities are made, and there is never enough to satisfy demand. They have become one of our most requested allocations.
