Jean-Claude Bachelet

Meursault, Puligny and Chassagne are the holy trinity of Côte de Beaune wine villages. But what about their neighbour, Saint-Aubin? Quality has skyrocketed in recent years, and the wines from the best growers with the best sites are world-class - but they’re relatively under appreciated. Domaine Jean-Claude Bachelet is a top name, making rich, detailed Chardonnay and elegant Pinot Noir from very good vineyards. They are some of the best value fine wines to be found in the heart of Burgundy.

Benoît and Jean-Baptiste Bachelet, sons of Jean-Claude, are now in charge of the estate. In the last few years, they’ve worked hard to ratchet up quality, introducing biodynamic principles in the vineyard, bottling all their own wines and moving to new cellars in Gamay, just outside Saint-Aubin. One thing that hasn’t changed is the traditional practice of long, slow barrel ageing that has always given their Bachelet wines their characteristic weight. This, combined with prime holdings in the most lauded Premier Crus, produces reds and whites with beautiful balance, richness, and ageing potential.
