Camille Giroud Pommard 2017

Just eleven days out of oenology school, the 24-year-old (and then-unknown) David Croix was installed as winemaker at Maison Camille Giroud – a stroke of genius from the house’s new investors, which included US importer and all-round wine legend Becky Wasserman, as well as Napa vintner Ann Colgin.
The immensely talented David brought this old and rather tired négociant house back from the brink with a major revamp of the winery and, by introducing old barrels and whole-bunch fermentations, began to craft beautifully expressive Pinot Noirs in touch with contemporary tastes, while maintaining Giroud’s legacy for wines of long ageing potential.
We love elegant red Burgundy vintages – sadly, seeming to be a thing of the past – at Rotter Towers. From 6-7 plots around the village, this is a Pommard with plenty to offer: black cherry, lavender, rose petals, and spice all flesh out in this attractive, juicy 2017.
