Travel south through Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune and the names of famous white wine villages flash by - Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet. Keep going and you come to the Mâconnais. It may lack the historic prestige of its northern neighbours, but it is just as dynamic - and financially more accessible. This the place where the region’s most talented young winemakers come to start a domaine, and the best wines are already outshining those of more established stars. Now is the time to buy them, and Jessica Litaud should be one of the first names on your list.
Litaud has five hectares of old, biodynamically farmed vines in top Mâconnais vineyards, including some of Pouilly-Fuissé's long-awaited 1er Crus. She trained with Jura legend JF Ganevat, and makes her wines with gentle pressing and extended élevage in old barrels. They have a balance between generosity and restraint that’s the hallmark of only the best white Burgundy.
Like the Mâconnais itself, Litaud is fast moving from being a star of the future to a star of the present, and her wines are among our most requested allocations every year.
