A former apprentice of some of Burgundy’s elite winemakers (including Nicholas Faure, Charles Lachaux, and Amélie Berthaut), Benjamin Benoît has ascended to the Jura’s upper echelons at an astonishing rate.

For three generations the Benoîts sold their grapes to the local co-operative until Benjamin’s father Denis built a cellar and began making wine in 2004. Taking over the family vineyards (and some of Pupillin’s oldest vines) at the age of 23, Benjamin introduced organic farming and artisanal winemaking techniques, pushing the quality of the domaine’s wines.

While many producers in the region blend their parcels, Benjamin favours site-specific bottlings of Chardonnay, Savagnin, Trousseau, Pinot Noir, and Ploussard – the latter of which he bottles as five individual cuvées. Fermented with ambient yeasts and aged in old oak barrels, the results are pristine whites full of citrus flavours and racy freshness and haunting, floral-edged reds.

With the Jura suffering catastrophic losses due to frost and hail in 2021, many winemakers were left with just 10-20% of their usual crop. Considering Cellier Saint Benoît’s production is even smaller than normal, we’re delighted to offer this miniscule allocation of these astonishing wines.

From a mid-slope clay-limestone plot on the border with Arbois. A textural delight of ripe orchard fruit and spice.
