We’re thrilled that our mother company Keeling Andrew has become the exclusive UK importers of Muchada-Léclapart, the exciting un-fortified Sherry project from cult Champagne grower David Léclapart and Alejandro Muchada.

Combining Léclapart’s years of experience on the chalk soils of the Montagne de Reims with Muchada’s skills gleaned from Sanlúcar de Barrameda’s old-school vignerons, the pair craft un-fortified, site-specific wines with little-to-no flor influence, as opposed to the region’s ubiquitous blending of multiple vintages in soleras.

Becoming friends when Muchada worked a harvest with Léclapart at his Champagne estate, in 2015 the pair were drawn to Sanlúcar de Barrameda’s albariza soils in the historic pago of Miraflores to create their domaine. “When we were searching for vineyards to buy, David said we should look for beauty, as it would give a beautiful wine,” says Muchada, a former architect, who, like his pal, lets his artistic sensibilities inform his craft.

Muchada-Léclapart’s 3ha of biodynamic vines are divided into three plots of old, massale selection Palomino in ‘La Platera’ in Miraflores, as well as a plot of Moscatel on sandy soils in the Abulagar pago.

From the lowest section of ‘La Platera’, ‘Univers’ is Palomino fermented in stainless steel and ceramic tanks, while ‘Lumière’ is made from older 60-year+ vines in the same vineyard but vinified in Bordeaux barrels. ‘Elixir’ is Moscatel from Abulagar. Among Spain’s most exciting whites, all three are beautifully saline and textured.
