In 1964, Lucien Seroin and his son Paul left their homeland in Algeria to establish the Sant’Armettu estate on Corsica’s idyllic southwestern shore. For the next thirty years, the family’s 11h of vineyards supplied fruit to the local co-operative in the nearby town of Sartène.
Paul’s son Gilles – a wine merchant with an appreciation for small-lot vinification and native varieties that counterparts such as Jean-Charles Abbatucci were pursuing elsewhere on the island – expanded Sant’Armettu in the 1990s, planting indigenous vines and introducing high quality organic farming techniques.
Now, fifth generation Guillaume cultivates 40ha of vineyards on granitic terraces overlooking the Gulfs of Tizzano and Propriano. In the winery, he uses light infusions and wild yeast fermentations to produce delicately perfumed wines with purity and finesse.
Elegant and velvet-soft, this evokes mind-bending, ripe Burgundian Pinot Noir infused with fresh herbs. You could drink with a light chill in the warmer months or at closer to room temperature with heartier food.
