Angelo Sega and his sons grow Nebbiolo vines, known locally as Chiavennasca (some of which are up to a century old), on the Swiss-Italian border in Valtellina. This is not an easy place to farm, but the Segas practice what the Italians call 'heroic viticulture' on these steep, 450m-high terraces, and organically at that. A smattering of other ancient varieties in the blend lend a savoury earthiness to the juicy fruit in this elegant, alpine Nebbiolo.
