Château Thivin sets the benchmark for serious, ageworthy Gamay in the Côte de Brouilly – one of the smallest and most prized of the Beaujolais crus.
The historic 14th century property was purchased in 1877 by the Geoffray family, who were instrumental in the creation of the Côte de Brouilly appellation. The steep, organically farmed slopes and their old-school approach to winemaking have cemented this as one of Beaujolais’ great terroirs and Thivin as one of its most important producers.
Such is their early drinking pleasure that it has become almost impossible to find aged parcels of Thivin’s wines. With time, they get closer to mature Pinot Noir – rich and gamey in style – whilst retaining the haunting fragrance and freshness of the best Gamay.
