Look up the Northern Rhône village of Cornas and you’ll find its wines described repeatedly as underrated. That may still be the case in general, but its star producers’ wines are now as highly prized as any in the region. Not least those of Thierry Allemand, who through years of hard work restoring old vineyards on steep, crumbling terraces, has built a reputation for some of the most vivid, energising Syrah around.
