As Levi Dalton writes: “Barolo has dramatic vineyard slopes, hills laden with truffles, a star grape variety – and wines nobody knows when to drink.” Conventional wisdom says that Nebbiolo’s tannins need decades to soften, but a combination of riper grapes and better vinification techniques is resulting in more approachable wines with less astringency. A blend of fruit from ‘Brea’, as well as other prime vineyard sites in its stable, Brovia’s moreish, tobacco-laced 2018 Barolo is just as exciting to drink now as it will be in years to come.
