Eben Sadie put new-school South Africa on the map. Now his spellbinding wines are so sought-after that they are allocated by the bottle.

That’s understandable. While demand for Sadie’s wines keeps growing, supply remains  limited partly because old vines and an uncompromising selection mean very low yields. The most famous cuvées are the flagships Columella (a powerful Syrah-based red from eight Swartland parcels) and Palladius (an aromatic blend of 11 white varieties with Chenin Blanc playing the starring role). Even scarcer are the Old Vine series wines - unique and compelling expressions of some of the most venerable vineyards in South Africa.

Sadie’s obsession with quality extends from vineyard to winery. Fruit is sorted by hand and fermentation takes place with native yeasts, before ageing in a variety of vessels. Every step is carefully considered to reveal the unique character of each vineyard. Although beautifully expressive in their youth, Sadie’s wines only reveal their true greatness with age.
