There have been many own-goals in the history of wine administration, but excluding Domaine de Trevallon from the Bouches-du-Rhône appellation is up there with the best (or worst) of them. Since 1992, the most famous producer in the area has bottled their wines under a technically lesser designation, and created their own reputation for quality that outshines the AOC itself.
