“Trediberri is an estate to watch. These wines are just gorgeous" – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Reviving some of Piedmont’s finest vineyards and combining the talents of a cutting-edge father-and-son team, Trediberri is staking a claim as the next great producer of traditionalist Barolo.
Founded in 2007, Trediberri is a project by Federico Oberto and his son Nicola. Federico brings four decades of experience working with the late Renato Ratti – an innovator who spearheaded the introduction of Barolo’s single-vineyard crus – while Nicola's inquisitive mind and passion for the great wines of the world ensures the quality of their work remains sky-high.
Trediberri combines the jewels of the Oberto family holdings on the prized hill of Rocche dell’Annunziata with 5ha of reclaimed land in Berri. Taking a historic-meets-modern approach, Nicola uses tressage – the laborious and highly skilled practice of braiding the vine canopy pioneered by Lalou Bize-Leroy – to grow top quality, organic fruit from Langhe varieties.
Building on traditional Piedmontese techniques of long, slow fermentation and extended ageing in barrel, Nicola crafts pure and elegant Barolos. In 2018, he decided to use all the fruit from Rocche dell’Annunziata – usually reserved for the flagship wine – in his Barolo ‘La Morra’. Offering an intoxicating perfume of red cherry, earthy spice, and tobacco, it is layered and velvety with fine, gravelly tannins that will reward further ageing.
Equal attention is given to Trediberri’s Langhe Nebbiolo and Barbera d’Alba, which combine the freshness of fruit sourced from high elevation vines with impressive structure and personality.
Federico and Nicola’s hard work has not gone unnoticed by critics and in-the-know winos eager to get their hands on each new release. Trediberri has established itself as a must-have name for lovers of Piedmontese wines, not only for quality and integrity but for the fantastic value these bottles represent.
