Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Rosé
While working at his father Marc Colin’s Saint-Aubin domaine between 1994 and 2006, Pierre-Yves Colin began making wines from négociant fruit alongside his wife Caroline Morey (also the child of a prominent Burgundy vigneron, Jean-Marc Morey). Subsequently establishing Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey (aka PYCM) from an impressive array of inherited vineyards, he has since cemented his place as a cult producer of the finest white Burgundies.
Harnessing meticulous organic farming methods and extraordinary attention to detail in his vineyards, Pierre-Yves crafts an assortment of exceptional Chardonnays – from his benchmark Bourgogne Blanc to spellbinding single-site cuvées from plots across Saint-Aubin, Pernand-Vergelesses, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, and Corton-Charlemagne.
Fermented using natural yeasts in large barrels, his wines marry complex terroir details with signature smoky reduction and laser-sharp precision. In addition, Pierre-Yves’ lack of lees-stirring and use of long, wide corks and waxed bottles offers excellent protection against premature oxidation, making these some of Burgundy’s most ageworthy wines.
Although the domaine is best known for its exceptional whites, Pierre-Yves’s brilliantly-made Rosé de Pinot Noir has become essential drinking among Burgundy lovers seeking a delicious rosé of both refreshment and complexity.
Made with fruit grown in the Hautes-Côtes village of Cormot-le-Grand near Saint-Aubin, as well as vines in Santenay, it is aged in large old barrels before being bottled without fining or filtration. Just 600 cases are produced each year.
Combining an elegant cherry and strawberry character with hints of smoky reduction, Pierre-Yves’ rosé crackles with energy and mineral drive. With bottle age, complex stony nuances emerge alongside a supple texture.
Having acquired some impressive experience interning with Jean-Louis Chave, Tempier, and Dujac, Pierre-Yves and Caroline’s talented young sons Mathis and Clément are now doing stellar work in gradually taking over their father’s vineyards and winery, and the future of the domaine is in excellent hands.
PYCM’s wines are usually tightly allocated and can fetch extraordinarily high prices on the secondary market, so we’re thrilled to offer this parcel of two well-priced back vintages of Rosé de Pinot Noir just as summer finally arrives in the UK.
