Alsace is famous for its historic producers and their timeless, classical wines. You know what you're going to get with Alsace. Jintaro Yura stepped into this never-changing world as an outsider with a fresh perspective. He is a well-travelled, talented winemaker, and his handcrafted wines have more in common with artisan Burgundy than Alsace.
Yura was born and grew up in Japan, where he first became interested in wine through his father's restaurants. Starting out as a sommelier, he enrolled in wine school and then travelled around Burgundy and Waipara before settling in Alsace with his family. Inspired by his experiences working alongside some of the region's leading vignerons, including Isabelle Meyer, Jean Boxler, and Jean-Paul Zusslin, Jintaro produced his first vintage in 2020 with the help of Domaine Gross's Vincent Gross, using fruit sourced from exemplary growers around Gueberschwihr and Rouffach.
Jintaro's wines are made on a tiny scale, fermented with native yeasts, aged in an assortment of vessels, and undergo stirring of their lees – common in the world of artisan Burgundy, but not here. The wines are full of energy, with great purity and finesse.
