Vincent Dureuil has transformed his family’s estate into the leading name in the Côte Chalonnaise in less than a generation. Finely crafted white and red Burgundies that remain keenly priced in a time of big increases, Dureuil-Janthial has become a ‘go-to’ domaine by those in the know.

Domaine Dureuil-Janthial extends across the south of Burgundy around the village of Rully, as well as to two tiny plots in Puligny-Montrachet and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Rully is traditionally seen as humble terroir, where many growers long prioritised quantity over quality and sold their crop to negociants, but its south-easterly, clay-limestone slopes have much in common with the Côte d’Or’s best vineyards just a few kilometres north. Dureuil’s meticulous farming and adroit winemaking is pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved here.

Although famed for his single-vineyard Chardonnays, Dureuil is equally adept at red winemaking – a rare skill that only a handful of Burgundians have mastered.

His Rully Rouge is sourced from three old-vine lieu-dits – Le Meix Cadot 1er Cru, En Rosey, and Montagne de Remenot. Perfumed with sweet red berries and fresh herbal notes, these wines – from the stellar back-to-back 2009 and 2010 vintages – are joyful and exuberant.

2003 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru ‘Clos des Argillières’ showcases his skill at capturing Pinot Noir's elegance even in the ripest of vintages – this is a beautifully silken wine with generous black cherry fruit and savoury complexity.
