Zárate Albariño 2022

Ernesto Zárate is single-handedly responsible for the popularity of Albariño: whilst his neighbours were pulling up the variety for high yielding and mildew resistant hybrids, Ernesto continued to believe in its superiority and initiated the Salnés Albariño Festival in 1954, which still takes place today. Zárate's vineyards and cellar are now in the hands of Eulogio Pomares (Ernesto's grandson) who has embraced organic farming and low intervention winemaking. The wines are reminiscent of Keller Riesling or razor-sharp Chablis: pure and focused in their fruit, but balanced by a long, salty freshness.
