Mayacamas Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2006Regular price £243.00
“Dusty berry fruit and wild, floral lift showing a hint of earth-and-tobacco development, structural tannin, and fresh acidity. Glorious now – heavenly in time”. Sounds almost like Barolo, doesn’t it? Comparisons to the Piedmont are nothing new for Bob Travers' wines, and although Mayacamas might be in Napa, it’s not as you know it, Toto.
Vines high up on Mount Veeder’s volcanic slopes ripen their fruit gradually, countering richness with enlivening acidity and tannin. Bob said farewell to the estate in 2012, but bottles from his 50-year stint offer a welcome taste of the California of old. Years of life left? This has got decades ahead of it.
