Le Soula: a 20-year-old estate that feels like it’s been around for ever. Founded by Gerard Gauby and UK importers Mark Walford and Roy Richards in 2001, what sets apart Le Soula from the bulk of Roussillon’s uninspiring producers is altitude, biodynamics, and old vines. An eclectic and varying blend (including Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, Marsanne, Roussanne) each year, the 2014 is, at first, a little reductive, before it moves into creamy stone fruit, nuts, and herbs. With age it takes on the richness of a white Rhône or a full, ripe Burgundy, but still framed by fresh acidity.
