While his friends drank beer, Stuart Hooper sipped on DRC and dreamt of building an Australian winery to emulate the great domaines of France. In 1974, he planted vines on a limestone-rich site in Geelong – an area with a history of viticulture dating back to the 1870s – and installed the trailblazing Gary Farr as winemaker. Hooper’s dream came true: for four decades Bannockburn has been one of Australia’s iconic producers, famed for low intervention wines of purity and finesse.
Made from estate fruit with 20% whole bunches and aged for 2 years in French oak. Lighter than your typical Aussie Shiraz – even Northern Rhône-esque in profile with its dense black cherry fruit laced with tapenade, coffee, and cigar-box. Svelte and satsifying.
