While his friends drank beer, Stuart Hooper sipped on DRC and dreamt of building an Australian winery to emulate the great domaines of France. In 1974, he planted vines on a limestone-rich site in Geelong – an area with a history of viticulture dating back to the 1870s – and installed the trailblazing Gary Farr as winemaker. Hooper’s dream came true: for four decades Bannockburn has been one of Australia’s iconic producers, famed for low intervention wines of purity and finesse.
Made in three batches – one partially destemmed with skin contact, one barrel fermented, and one fermented in tank – and blended. The result is layered and complex, retaining the varietal expression of Sauvignon with citrus, herbs, and lemongrass but also richly textured and smoky.
