Alión 1998Regular price £120.00
Bodegas Alión, owned by neighbouring estate and a younger sibling of sorts to Spain's 'First Growth' Vega Sicilia, is emblematic of modern Ribera del Duero and highlights the potential greatness of single-varietal Tinto Fino (Tempranillo). Hand-harvested fruit from low-yielding vines on the estate spends up to 20 months in new, one-use French barrels before release. Charmingly (and perhaps surprisingly) fresh for a twenty-something year-old wine, it is rich with dark, high-toned fruit dusted with cocoa, and shows its maturity with notes of tobacco and leather.
