Laurent Charvin works with 8ha in the cooler part of Châteauneuf and 15ha of 40-year-old vines in Côtes-du-Rhône to produce finely styled, Grenache-based wines, which have been favourably compared to those of Château Rayas. Due to the use of whole bunches, Charvin’s Châteauneufs benefit from a little bottle age before they show their full potential. The 2016 – one of the finest vintages ever produced by this estate – offers an expansive fragrance of red fruit and crushed rose petals and a layered, silky palate with detail and intensity right through to the finish.
